Juli 2025: This year, we are thrilled to announce our triumphant return to the World Biogas Summit, poised to showcase the incredible strides we've made and demonstrate how BiogasUnite is turning that bold vision into tangible impact. We're not just attending; we're leading the conversation!

On this Changemaker episode of S&P Global Commodity Insights EnergyCents podcast, Hill Vaden and Samantha Humphry talk to BiogasUnite co-founder, Katrin Puetz, about the opportunities for biogas to unlock new income opportunities for small-scale producers.

Past Events

December 2023: We kicked off the first BiogasUnite roadshow, starting in four major cities across Nigeria. With 120 key stakeholders in attendance, we presented our vision and gained valuable insights into the specific needs and challenges of the biogas sector in Nigeria – laying the foundation for future collaboration and impact.

July 2024: We didn’t see it coming - but what a moment it was at the World Biogas Summit in Birmingham. Greeted by our Zimbabwe country representative Deliah Mahakata, who stood out with grace and grit among a crowd of biogas men, we ended up receiving an award. We’ve been working hard, pushing boundaries, and building something different. Getting this kind of recognition from the highest level of the industry - something to remember!

November 2024: Co-founders Asah and Katrin had the privilege of participating in the prestigious African Energy Week in Cape Town, thanks to the invaluable support of the African Energy Chamber. They presented the groundbreaking BiogasUnite cooking energy concept during a high-profile panel discussion on clean cooking and a deep-dive technical session. The event provided a unique platform to showcase the initiative, engage with key industry players, and connect with potential partners and investors – an important milestone on the journey to transforming the cooking energy landscape in Africa.

November 2024: Clean cooking took the stage at African Energy Week in Cape Town, with our co-founder Katrin Puetz representing BiogasUnite. Speaking to a room full of energy professionals - mostly from the oil and gas sector - she challenged the silent assumption that "more of the same" will solve the energy crisis. Drawing on 15 years of hands-on experience in clean cooking, Katrin made a strong case for a shift in mindset: one that respects and rewards those who switch to sustainable energy. A mindset like BiogasUnite.

December 2024: We received overwhelming feedback from the private biogas sector in Nairobi! Together with country representative Caleb Wafula Wasilwa we hosted the first BiogasUnite meeting for fellow biogas technicians and companies in Kenya. What does the sector need? The issues shared by our Kenyan colleagues resonate with what biogas companies and entrepreneurs across the continent are experiencing. It was exciting to hear firsthand from a sector that is arguably the most developed and vibrant on the continent.

December 2024: What a moment! BiogasUnite had the honour of presenting its vision directly to Robert Habeck, Germany’s Vice-Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action - and it struck a chord. His words: “We don’t need the next unicorn, what we really need is disruption.” Exactly. So why not both? BiogasUnite is here to shake up the clean cooking sector - with bold ideas, entrepreneurial drive, and true scalability. Recognition at this level is crucial. Now, let’s keep the momentum going!

December 2024: The BiogasUnite launch event in Ethiopia hosted by at Addis Ababa University (AAU) brought together representatives from the private sector, academia, and public institutions, including various ministries. The room was filled to capacity, and we had undivided attention on the key points presented regarding the current status of the biogas sector, what we've learned over the past 15 years, and how we can now create a booming sector. An incredible excitement for a new approach in the biogas sector was created, the promising income opportunities and the fairness in the sector that will inevitably follow.
